FAQ’s

Are you the same Taurus Beds that I remember being in Kilburn?

Yes. Our first showroom opened in Belsize Road kilburn in 1979.

Do you have any beds you could deliver immediately?

Our wooden beds are made to order so your bed will match your taste exactly. Delivery is generally within 2 weeks inside the M25 and 3 weeks throughout the rest of the UK. But if you really need a bed very quickly, please telephone our showroom. We usually have one or two of our most popular models in standard sizes, in our most popular finishes, in stock and will do our best to help.

My partner is really tall? Can you make us an extra long bed?

We can. We make certain beds in 6’6” length as standard, and all our other widths can be made to 6’6” length as a special order. But if your partner is very tall indeed and needs a bed which is, say, 7’ long or more, we can make that for you as a bespoke order. Please have a look at this page.

Are your beds made from ethically sourced timber?

Yes. Our factory’s procurement manager buys in seasoned pine lengths grown and harvest responsibly and sustainably. This means that the growers supplying the timber merchant from whom he buys wood replant and harvest on a cycle that ensures the same volume of trees is always available each year, so that the same volume of harmful CO2 is removed from the atmosphere per acre of planting each year.

Can you take away my old mattress for me?

Yes of course. If you’re buying a new wooden bed or mattress from us, you’ll be asked at the checkout whether you’d like us to remove items you are replacing. If you would, you can add the removals to your shopping basket as an item. The charge we make simply covers the cost of our driver’s time in taking your items to an authorised recycling plant, and the cost to us of paying to recycle them.

Is my bed guaranteed?

Yes it is. You get a full 5 Year Guarantee on all our wooden beds, mattresses, divans, bedroom furniture and underbed drawers.

Under the terms of the guarantee we undertake to repair, or at our discretion replace, any item purchased from us which is found to be faulty, within 5 years from the date of purchase.

All Guarantee settlements are subject to us being able to inspect the item in question, and the decision as to whether to repair or replace the item is always ours. We do, however, aim to be scrupulously fair when assessing Guarantee claim items, and our goal is always to leave you happy with the settlement.
Your statutory rights are in no way affected by this Guarantee.

Can you paint my bed in the colour I’ve painted my room?

We have four standard paint colours in our range: Black, White, Eau de Nil and Buttermilk. In addition, we can paint your bed to match any colour shown on a Farrow & Ball paint chart. This counts as a bespoke order, so if you’d like to enquire about this, please fill in this form.

Will your delivery man help me get my bed into my bedroom?

Almost always. If you live in most parts of the UK, our driver will take the pieces of your wooden bed to whichever room you like and also assemble them for you without charge. Unfortunately, at this time if you live in parts of Wales, Cumbria, Northumberland, North Yorkshire, Scotland, Devon and Cornwall, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, the delivery is handled by a haulage company and they will simply deliver the unassembled pieces of your bed, carefully packed, to your front door.

Do you do beds in sizes that my IKEA bedding will fit?

Yes. Ikea beds come in 4 UK sizes and 4 Continental sizes. The UK sizes are 3’ x 6’3”; 4’6” x 6’3”; 5’ x 6’6”; and 6’ x 6’6”. Our beds are available in all of these sizes so would fit your bedding. IKEA’s Continental sizes are 3’ x 6’6”; 4’7” x 6’6”; 5’3” x 6’6”; and 6’ x 6’6”. The first two of these sizes do not appear on our site, but are available from us as special orders. The latter two, including the popular 5’3” wide Continental King size, are in our standard range.

Are your wooden beds suitable for furnished buy to let properties?

Yes. Their solid timber construction makes them extremely robust and ensures years of good service. So, whilst they’re not the lowest cost option for landlords, they usually work out cheaper over their lifetime.

Are your wooden beds suitable for guest houses?

Yes. Their solid timber construction makes them extremely robust and ensures years of good service. We’ve noticed that our Zip and Link option, in which two single Kyoto beds are ordered with a pair of mattresses which can be zipped together, enabling the two beds to be used as a pair of single beds, or joined together to create a double, are particularly popular with guest houses.

Do you only supply wooden beds?

No. We also sell a small range of divan beds.

Can I arrange delivery for a specific date?

Yes. When we call you to confirm the order we will discuss delivery dates with you and agree one that suits you. The day before the delivery is due we will email you to confirm that delivery will take place the following day and advise you of the 2 hour time window within which we expect to deliver.

How long will it take for my wooden bed or divan bed to be ready?

When we call to confirm your order we will agree a delivery date with you. This will take into account both the time we need to make your bed, and when it will be convenient for you to take delivery. Usually, any of our beds or furniture can be delivered to an address within the M25 within 2 weeks. Throughout the rest of the UK, delivery is generally within 3 weeks. Should you need your order sooner, please discuss this with us when we call to confirm and we’ll do our best to help.

I live in Nottinghamshire. Can I collect my bed from your workshop?

Unfortunately not. Access restrictions and Health and Safety regulations mean we are unable to receive visitors at the workshop.

Can you assemble my bed for me?

Almost always. If you live in most parts of the UK, our driver will take the pieces of your bed to whichever room you like and assemble them for you without charge.

Unfortunately, at this time our remote locations delivery team is unable to assemble beds on deliveries to parts of Wales, Cumbria, Northumberland, North Yorkshire, Scotland, Devon and Cornwall, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands. If this applies to your delivery, we will tell you this when we confirm your order by telephone. Should you live in a remote location but particularly wish us to assemble for you, please tell us. At a modest additional charge we will send one of our core delivery team from London with your order, and he will be pleased to assemble the bed for you.

I live on a remote Scottish island. Will you deliver to me?

Some remote parts of the UK fall outside of the regions to which we can economically make standard delivery. However, if you live in such a place and would like us to obtain a quote for you from our hauliers for delivering an order to you, please get in touch.

How is the mattress supported on my wood bed?

The mattresses on all our wood beds sit on 12 pine wood slats, which run across the width of the bed. The slats are spaced with a gap of an inch or two between them, so that the mattress can ventilate. On beds of width up to 3’6”, the slats are supported at either end by a ledge fitted to the side beam of the bed.

On beds of width 4’0” to 5’3”, the slats are also supported half way along by a central support running the length of the bed between the head end and foot end. On beds of width 6’0”, the slats are supported at one third and two thirds of their length by a pair of supports running the length of the bed between the head end and foot end.

Does your bedroom furniture have to be assembled?

No. Our wooden bedroom furniture leaves our factory ready to be put in place in your bedroom. Our driver will bring it in and put it in place for you. Don’t worry, if you’ve ordered a wardrobe or a large chest, there’ll be two men on the van.

Is your Taurus Divan actually made by a famous brand?

No. It’s made by the company who make our mattresses for us, to an extremely high standard. That’s why it’s such great value.

Can I visit the factory and see my bed being made?

Unfortunately not. Our Nottinghamshire factory, nice as it is, is full of machine tools used in the cutting and planing of timber. It’s not a suitable place for us to open to visitors, partly due to the cost of insurance.

Do I need to turn my mattress regularly?

Yes, all our Open Coil and Pocket Sprung mattresses need to be turned regularly. We recommend that you turn your new mattress every 2 weeks for the first 3 months, and then after that every 2-3 months. If you have one of our Memory foam or combination Pocket Sprung and Memory foam mattresses, you do not need to turn them over, but should rotate them every few months, so that the head and toe ends swap places.
